Tiny Shanty is a part of the Art Shanty Projects of 2010. We will be open Saturdays and Sundays 10am-5pm January 16-February 14th.
We are going to create a Tiny Shanty. It will be as if everything were suddenly shrunk down to 1/4th scale. Our three-story mansion will only be 8 feet tall, but visitors will feel like a giant. The shanty itself will be an 8′ x 12′ x by 8′ wooden structure. The mansion will have large doors, shrunk down to 3 feet, which visitors may crawl through for the full experience. Alternatively there will be a large door in back, for those that do not wish or are not able to go through the front door. Inside, the shanty will be decorated like a fancy mansion with tiny furniture and decor. We will have tiny activities and art projects for visitors to participate in.
It can be easy to feel small in this huge world. Tiny Shanty will provide an alternate reality which will allow participants to experience being huge in a tiny world. There will be several outlets for creative minds to explore and interact with us and other visitors, including: tiny tea-time, tiny poetry readings, tiny films and more. We’ll also invite visitors to make their own tiny art projects with various materials provided.
Balsa Man Regional Fire Arts Festival:
The final weekend of the Shanty Project, we will host a “regional burn” as part of the Balsa Man Arts community. Balsa Man is a tiny version of the Burning Man Festival. Our regional event will display tiny art created by the shanty community. At dusk on Saturday, we will symbolically burn some of our tiny art, with an eye to avoid leaving a mess on the lake.
The Tiny Shanty Team consists of 7 people with significant experience in event planning and execution, creating art, building outdoor structures, coping with harsh environments and having fun. We have been attending Art Shanty Projects for several years, and are familiar with the environment and community.
